A History of Innovation

Western Filament was created in 1938 in California before eventually moving to Grand Junction Colorado in 1990. Before we were called Western Filament, our name was Western Fishing lines and only within a couple of decades of our founding, we were producing revolutionary fishing lines using innovative techniques.

We quickly transformed the fishing industry and continue to do the same today. Since our founding, we have had a long history of innovation in fly fishing and fishing line. We are very excited to share our latest innovation, Biotip.    

Biotip is made of a 100% proprietary biodegradable polymer that is strong, unique, and good for the environment - just like you. In only 6-7 years Biotip composts into the environment completely, unlike fluorocarbon or nylon which could take hundreds of years.
